South Korean movie Parasite makes Oscars history

Plus, check out all the highlights and performances of the evening

The 92nd Academy Awards are over and if you missed it, here’s the recap.

Steve Martin and Chris Rock opened proceedings in LA with a tongue in cheek monologue, which was hilarious and a little naughty.

Janelle Monae took to the stage and perfromed a medley of songs from some of the year’s nominated films, including It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood which she sung directly to Tom Hanks.

And then she unleashed...

Best Supporting Actor was the first award of the night, and it was no surprise that Brad Pitt snagged the Oscar for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (after scooping up the Golden Globe, the Critics Choice, the SAG and the BAFTA award). His speech was witty, a little political, and then he reflected on his career and got a little choked up.

Laura Dern received an early birthday present with her Oscar win for Best Supporting Actress for Marriage Story, and thanked her parents...

Joaquin Phoenix won Best Actor for Joker, (no surprises there) using his platform to get an important message across, and then emotionally quoted his late brother, River Phoenix.

As we all suspected Renee Zellweger took out the Best Actress award for portraying Judy Garland in Judy

But the night belonged to South Korea as their movie Parasite happily infested the awards show - taking Oscars left right and centre – they won Best Original Screenplay, Best International Feature, and Best Director  where Bong Joon Ho personally thanked Scorsese for inspiring his movie career, giving the iconic director a standing ovation.

And Parasite made history being the first foreign language film to ever be awarded Best Picture.

When they took out this prestigious award, the whole cast went wild, cheering and patting their Joon Ho on the back, but the BEST part of the acceptance speech was when Tom Hanks stood up and demanded the microphones be raised, when they tried to lower them and play the music over thier speech. And of course, they listened to Sherriff Woody.

And what about the performances… Elton John, Idina Menzel, Chrissy Metz , Randy Newman and Cynthia Erivo were outstanding… but the surprise performance of the night was by Eminem, who popped up during songs from movies and had the celebs rapping along.

And as for Billie Eilish’s mystery performance, turns out it wasn’t the preview to the upcoming Bond theme song, but in memoriam, singing a very stripped back version of the Beatles’ Yesterday, while those lost where honoured.

Phew – there you have it… the Oscars are done and dusted for another year!
