Rockingham-Mandurah have won against Melville in their Premier League clash at Lark Hill on Saturday.

The Mariners won the toss and elected to bowl first, but opening bowler Tom Lammonby was unavailable to start due to an ankle strain.

Aaron Burrage and Leon Coombs stepped in, and had Melville at 1/27 after the 10 over power-play.

"Although Melville showed some fight with some small partnerships, our bowlers were able to apply pressure throughout the innings," coach Kris Kennedy said.

"We managed to take wickets consistently.

"Ronan Hogarth was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4/53 throughout the middle overs."

Rockingham-Mandurah had a tough start to their batting, losing both the openers after 31 runs.

But a key batting partnership turned things around for the Mariners.

"Fortunately, Tom Lammonby and Aaron Burrage batted superbly to put on a 147 run partnership to drive the innings in our favour," coach Kennedy said.

The Mariners are up against Subiaco Floreat at Floreat Park in a two-day game starting this weekend.

"It's been a rough start to the new year for our club," Kennedy said.

"But we're getting some good game time into our young playing group and it's great to see them standing up to the challenges presented.

"We'll need to come out focused [this weekend] and really build some consistency in the execution of our plans."
