Scorchers season over

The Perth Scorchers have suffered a five-wicket loss in their last regular season fixture to the Adelaide Strikers.

Perth posted 6/174 batting first, Josh Inglis top scored with 55 while skipper Mitch Marsh finished the innings hitting 50 not out from 41 balls.

Alex Carey, Jake Weatherald and Travis Head fell cheaply in the chase to hand the Scorchers pole position.

Jonathan Wells and Harry Nielsen came together at 3-64 and put together an 88-run partnership to steer the Strikers towards victory.

A couple of late wickets from the Scorchers wasn't enough as the home side brought up the total with four balls to spare.

Marsh said it was a tough finish to a tough season.

"The boys showed some good things today, Josh Inglis was great with the bat, Kelly and Coults did a decent job with the ball, but we couldn't get the job done." Marsh said.

“We’ve had a lot of games this season that were close but we didn’t have things go our way and we take full ownership of not having ourselves in a stronger position to start with."

“It leaves us very hungry for next season now. We’ll sit down this week and review the season as a whole and work out what we need to do to come back bigger and better next year.”
