On This Day... the first church service was held in Sydney in 1793, Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly solo in 1932, Elton John played his debut concert at the Troubador in L.A. in 1970, Bruce Springsteen released his album Born in the USA in 1975, Mark Chapman, who murdered John Lennon, was sentenced to 20 years to life in 1981, Windows 95 for PC was launched in 1995, and Aaliyah, the US singer, and actress died in a plane crash at 22 in 2001.
