On This Day... the nickname Uncle Sam (U.S.) was first used as a symbolic reference to the United States in 1813, the first Bathing Beauty Contest was held in Atlantic City in 1921, the last Tasmanian Tiger died in the Hobart Zoo in 1936, Keith Moon, The Who Drummer died aged 32 in 1978, Tupac Shakur, the 25-year-old US rapper, was shot and mortally wounded in 1996 (dying six days later), and Warren Zevon, the US singer who charted with Werewolves of London, died aged 56 in 2003.
