The Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan has sadly passed away aged 65, following a recent hospital stay after being diagnosed with viral encephalitis. The Irish singer-songwriter had been unwell for some time and died peacefully with his wife and family by his side on the 30th of November.
The Pogues were known for combining traditional Irish music with rock and roll to get their unique sound.
Bruce Springsteen once said, “I truly believe that a hundred years from now, most of us will be forgotten, but Shane’s music is going to be remembered and sung. It’s just deep in the nature of it!”
That goes without saying for their 1987 Christmas Classic - Fairytale of New York.
