Following the State Government’s decision to ease some COVID-19 restrictions, the City of Rockingham would like to clarify the impact of these changes on the City and wider community.

Under the new rules groups of up to 10 people are able to gather in small groups either outdoors or inside, for non-work purposes. Personal training boot camps and other forms of group exercise are allowed outdoors in groups of up to 10 people, however, no equipment is to be shared.

Activities such as picnics and barbecues at City parks, reserves and beaches are permitted if they adhere to the 10 person limit, as are other activities such as fishing, hiking or boating. All activities must continue to adhere to the 1.5m social distancing rule.

However, all City community and leisure facilities remain closed, as do playgrounds and skate parks. Dining in restaurants and cafes is also unavailable, with only takeaway permitted.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels encouraged the community to continue following the State Government’s rules in a measured manner.
“Since COVID-19 began to impact our way of life, Rockingham residents have done a great job in following the variety of rules and restrictions that were laid out to protect the health and safety of the wider community,” Mayor Sammels said.

“While it is cause for optimism to see the State Government begin to ease some restrictions, the City is urging the community not to become complacent and to continue to observe social distancing guidelines.

“Going forward the City will continue to follow the expert advice given by the Australian Government, State Government and the WA Department of Health.”
