The Socceroos hold the official world record for the largest margin of victory in an international football match, defeating American Samoa 31-0 during a 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifier on April 11, 2001. During this historic match, striker Archie Thompson also set the individual world record for the most goals scored by a single player in an international match, netting 13 goals
