Neale Daniher is being honoured today with a State Funeral Service at the MCG - a fitting farewell for a man whose impact stretched far beyond football. Best known as an Essendon premiership player, Melbourne coach, and co-founder of FightMND, Daniher became one of Australia’s most powerful advocates after his 2013 motor neurone disease diagnosis.
Instead of stepping back, he stepped forward... helping launch the Big Freeze at the ‘G and raising more than $140 million for MND research through FightMND.
Even as his condition progressed, Daniher remained determined to change the story around MND, famously saying he didn’t want to be defined by the disease, but by how he lived with it.
Today, thousands are gathering at the MCG - alongside millions watching on broadcast - to celebrate a legacy built on courage, humour, and extraordinary resilience.
Vale, Neale Daniher.
