Today is World Ocean Day - how can you help our waterways?!

Gunners & Ali - Ali's Random Facts

Today is World Oceans Day, and here's a fact that might surprise you...

More than half the oxygen you breathe doesn't come from trees... it comes from the ocean!

Tiny marine plants called phytoplankton drift through our oceans producing at least 50% of the Earth's oxygen. So every second breath you take is thanks to the sea.

That's one reason World Oceans Day is celebrated every year on June 8 - to remind us just how important healthy oceans are to life on Earth.

And here in Mandurah, we're lucky enough to have one of Australia's most beautiful waterways right on our doorstep. The Peel-Harvey Estuary is home to dolphins, fish, birdlife and thousands of other species, with local volunteers and Mandurah Estuary Guardians helping to protect it year-round.

Want to help? It's easy. Pick up litter when you're at the beach, avoid letting rubbish wash into storm drains, use less plastic, and always take your fishing line home with you.

Because whether it's the Indian Ocean or the Mandurah estuary, every little action helps keep our waters healthy for future generations.
