World Rock Day is celebrated annually on July 13 to honour rock music and commemorate the historic 1985 Live Aid benefit concerts.

Phil Collins famously performed in both London and Philadelphia on that day, even taking the Concorde across the Atlantic to unite the twin shows.The History of Live AidHeld on July 13, 1985, the monumental Live Aid festival took place simultaneously in London (Wembley Stadium) and Philadelphia (JFK Stadium), with additional performances in Sydney and Moscow.

Organizsed by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, the mega-event was designed to raise funds for the famine crisis in Ethiopia.

The concerts featured an all-star line-up that defined the era, including... Queen, Led Zeppelin, U2, The Who, David Bowie, Paul McCartney and raised over $120 million US.
