The piano-driven song is giving us all the moody Missy feels.
Missy Higgins has just dropped a new track titled 'You Should Run', which is the first single off her new album (yet to be announced).
The award-winning singer posted to socials to reveal the painful reason behind penning the ballad.
'I can’t remember feeling more vulnerable releasing a new song as I do with this one. Since separating from my husband a couple of years ago I’ve found myself turning to music as a lifeline, much like I did as a teenager writing the songs for The Sound Of White. I guess everyone has their own way of coping when you find yourself somewhere you never expected to be. Songwriting is mine. You Should Run is just really honest, I didn’t dress the words up in anything pretty, just laid it bare like an offering, a surrender to the way things go. It’s about this next chapter I’ve found myself in, trying to navigate moving on, building a new story with the pain of loss still in my heart, trying to let people in whilst fighting the instinct to push them away. It’s messy, but it’s real and it’s where I’m at. I recorded it all myself at home, it seemed like it needed to be captured that way, super intimate and personal. I hope you like it, and maybe some of you can relate and find solace in a story similar to your own. This is the first single off my new album and I’m very excited for you all to hear the rest of it when it’s ready.'
