Children who are not fully immunised will be banned from attending childcare and kindergarten programs from today under the State Government's no-jab, no-play laws.
The tough new laws are designed to boost vaccinations rates among Western Australian children.
Last year WA's immunisation rates were below the national average for one, two and five-year-olds at 90.2 per cent.
It comes after statistics from a Health Department audit, published in The West Australian, revealed 3703 WA children who currently attend pre-primary, kindergarten or childcare centres are not up-to-date with their vaccinations or their immunisation status is unknown.
Children who are unable to be vaccinated for medical reasons, such as having a severe allergy to vaccine ingredients or having a suppressed immune system or those on approved catch-up schedules may be exempt from the no-jab, no-play laws.
