Native snake-necked turtles have died after two illegal marron traps were installed in a pond in Baldivis.

The City of Rockingham are investigating who set the traps at Clyde Vernon Gough Reserve.

"The traps were installed before 20 May 2024 and unfortunately have caused the death of some native snake-necked turtles," a City spokesperson said.

Anyone with information regarding the traps are asked to contact Ranger Services on 9528 0333 or email customer@rockingham.wa.gov.au and quote IT#20.05.2024.

"In WA it is illegal for recreational fishers to use fishing traps of any kind without a licence. Our local laws also prohibit the taking, injuring or killing of any fauna on local government property."
