Uranus was the first planet ever discovered with a telescope!

Before that, all the planets we knew about were visible to the naked (Mercury, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, and Venus).

Uranus was spotted by astronomer William Herschel in 1781. Then, more than 60 years later, Neptune became the second planet discovered with a telescope, by astronomer Johann Gottfried Galle in 1846.

And here’s the really clever bit... Neptune wasn’t just spotted by chance.

Astronomers actually predicted where it should be because Uranus wasn’t behaving quite as expected!Planets In Order Of Discovery at Katina Woods blog
