It was an incredibly special night in Melbourne last night, as some of Australia’s biggest music stars came together to celebrate the one and only John Farnham.
Jessica Mauboy, Human Nature, John Stevens and Mahalia Barnes kicked things off with a huge Farnham medley, before John’s son Rob took to the stage to sing Love To Shine.
There was a more emotional side to the John Farnham tribute concert on the weekend, with the 77-year-old unable to attend as his health has deteriorated in recent months. His family says John now requires continuous oxygen support, uses a wheelchair for mobility and has 24-hour nursing care at home.
John has been keeping his health private since his cancer battle, but his family said they wanted fans to understand why he couldn’t be there.
He was still very much part of the night, with footage of his incredible past performances playing on the big screens.
And his son Rob told the crowd that seeing so many people there would absolutely warm his dad’s heart.
Then came some really beautiful moments… Jimmy Barnes teamed up with his daughter Mahalia for When Something Is Wrong With My Baby, and Celine Dion joined from Paris for a stunning You’re The Voice.
Keith Urban flew home from Nashville to perform Burn For You.
And Chris Martin gave a surprise performance with a song he wrote for John called 'A Better Singer Than Me'.
But the big finale was something else - the entire cast came back together for You’re The Voice, backed by 24 bagpipers.
Thousands packed Rod Laver Arena… and the concert has launched a campaign aiming to raise one million dollars for Head and Neck Cancer Australia.
A beautiful celebration of an absolute Australian icon.
