A Waroona farm is raising funds to build a space to house volunteers who help look after rescued animals that have been neglected, mistreated or forgotten.

The Parker family transformed their 100 acre property into Greener Pastures Sanctuary in 2013 and have devoted their lives to rescuing animals with nowhere left to go.

Founder Rachael Parker said her biggest challenge in running the farm was finding volunteers to help on a regular basis.

As a remote property, Ms Parker’s rotation of regular volunteers find it difficult to include commute time into their already busy schedules.

“We provide prac work for Murdoch vet school students and it would be great to offer them a place to stay,” she said.

“As a student, driving here every day for two weeks is just impractical.

“We’ve given the animals somewhere to go but now we need somewhere for volunteers to stay.”

Greener Pastures supporter Sarah Clozza launched a GoFundMe campaign on July 6, which has already attracted more than $1000 in donations, to raise money for a portable cabin to house volunteers on-site.

“We rely on the kindness of animal lovers and generous donors to help keep the sanctuary running,” Ms Parker said.

“Being able to provide volunteers with accommodation year-round will help attract more sustained and regular care for our beautiful animals.”
