Boat ramps and facilities in South Yunderup, Bouvard and Port Kennedy will receive a State Government funding boost.
A total of eight projects from Karratha to Busselton were successful in securing a share of $1.5 million in funding in the latest round of the Recreational Boating Facilities Scheme (RBFS) which supports local authorities as they work to provide improved infrastructure for boat owners.
The Shire of Murray received the largest allocation with a $478,113 grant to install four new floating jetties, a universal access pathway and improved boat trailer parking at the Wharf Cove boating facility in South Yunderup.
The City of Rockingham received $150,000 to commence a planning study for a detailed design for the upgrade of the Port Kennedy boat launching facility.
The City of Mandurah was also given $150,000 to upgrade the boat ramp concrete slabs at the Parkridge boating facility in Bouvard.
"Boating is an incredibly popular pastime for many Western Australians, and investing in improvements to facilities across the State ensures we support local economies and businesses that rely on the boating industry," Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said.
"The Recreational Boating Facilities Scheme recognises and supports the important role that local governments play in providing improved and safer facilities for recreational boat owners throughout WA.
"Boat owners can also take some credit as they directly contribute to the scheme when they pay their boat registration fees."
Boating facility managers can apply to the Department of Transport for grants up to 75 per cent of the estimated project cost, with the maximum amount limited to $750,000.
