Child care worker charged over alleged assault of children

PIC: File

A former child care worker has been charged after allegedly assaulting four children and endangering the life of a 10-month-old in her care.

Police were first alerted to the woman in August this year, when a Perth child care centre reported she allegedly forcibly grabbed two 3-year-old children by the arm and dragged them one after the other, with one hitting their head on a dressing table.

The worker involved was stood down as a result.

Child Abuse Squad detectives took control of the investigation and allegedly uncovered a further three incidents involving the same woman.

These incidents occurred at the same child care centre and went unreported to authorities at time.

The first incident occurred in November 2018, where it's alleged the the woman slapped a 2-year-old across the face.

In July 2019, it's alleged the woman was feeding a 10-month-old child in an aggressive and unsafe manner causing the child to temporarily lose consciousness.

The child was taken to Perth Children's Hospital by family members and later recovered from the incident.

In November 2019, the woman allegedly became angry and while yelling and swearing at management she forcibly grabbed a 3-year-old child by the arm and dragged them from one room to another.

Detectives have since arrested the 39-year-old woman and she has been interviewed in relation to these allegations.

She has been charged with four counts of aggravated common assault and one count of endanger life, health or safety of a person.

The Karawara woman is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today.
