The City of Rockingham are encouraging residents to nominate a group or individual that has made the community a better place.

The annual Australia Day Council WA, Community Citizen of the Year Award, recognises those who made a remarkable contribution during the year, and those who have serviced outstandingly over a number of years.

There are four award categories:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Citizen of the Year - Youth (under 25 years of age)
  • Citizen of the Year - Senior (over 65 years of age)
  • Active Citizenship - Group or Event

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said these awards allow the opportunity to honour heroes of the community.

“Across the City of Rockingham there are a number of organisations and residents that put in a tremendous amount of work to help the community, quite often with little or no recognition from the public,” Mayor Sammels said.

“Whether it is for local sporting groups, social clubs or charities, these residents and groups continually put the community first.

“These people are the backbone of so many fantastic things that happen in our City and I encourage the community to nominate a group or individual who they feel has made a positive contribution.”

The awards will be presented on Australia Day at the City’s Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony on 26 January 2020.

Nominations for the Community Citizen of the Year Awards close on Thursday 31 October 2019.
