A Community Grant from the City of Mandurah has helped create a book of local stories celebrating the lives of people living with dementia.

Wishing For Memories, launched late last year, is a collection of works from the Mandurah community in association with the Forget-Me-Not Dementia Support group.

The support group collated stories written by the community for the community, along with poems penned by members of local poetry group Inklusive.

Forget-Me-Not Dementia Support CEO Angie McCluskey said Wishing for Memories was launched to a full-house audience at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre and was very well received.

Ms McCluskey said the Forget-Me-Not Memory Cafes and the book had brought greater awareness, understanding and acceptance within the community of those living with dementia.

Community groups, sporting clubs and non-profit organisations who have identified a need for a community focused project are being encouraged to apply for a new round of grants from the City of Mandurah.

The next round of Community Grants funding is now open for applications, with groups able to apply for one-off funding up to $5000 for projects, creative ideas and events that benefit the local community.

Since their inception, Community Grants have helped hundreds of local groups and organisations to deliver a range of projects that increase community capacity, engagement, participation and skills and training in Mandurah.

Applications for this round will close on April 6, 2023.

For information on applications, go to mandurah.wa.gov.au/grantsandsponsorship

Applicants should read the guidelines on the website, and contact one of the City’s Senior Community Development Officers on 9550 3777 (or email cdo@mandurah.wa.gov.au) to discuss their grant idea, and then submit their applications online.
