City of Mandurah residents are encouraged to have their say on a proposed 3.98 per cent rate rise for the 2024-25 financial year.
The rates are set to go towards projects that benefit the local community outlined in the City's 10-year Long Term Financial Plan.
“The Long Term Financial Plan gives careful consideration to the fact that many in the community are facing cost of living challenges,” Mayor Rhys Williams said.
“We’ve got several neighbourhood projects in the pipeline such as redevelopment of the Dawesville Foreshore and the final phase of the Coodanup Foreshore, as well as reinvigorating many local parks in Greenfields and Coodanup areas. These sorts of projects are important community connectors, and provide free, family friendly places for the community to enjoy.
“We’re also completing the next phase of transforming the City Centre Waterfront with work to commence on the North and Central Eastern Foreshore within the first few weeks of June, as well as completing the community centre at Dawesville, which is an important project given the significant population growth happening in that area."
Mr Williams said Mandurah's growth over the past 20 years has seen unprecedented levels of investment in community infrastructure, equating to more than $1.5 billion.
"Now, as the population growth begins to normalise, it is critical that we invest appropriately in maintaining our assets so that we can renew and replace them as required," he said.
“This long-term planning means we avoid the dramatic fluctuations in household rates that many other local governments have had to implement in recent years, which is important.”
The community feedback period ends on June 20.
Rates notices will be issued in mid August and payments due in September.
