The City of Rockingham is looking at installing six new roundabouts along Willmott Drive in Waikiki in a bid to improve road safety.
The upgrade is part of the City’s Road Safety Action Plan, with roundabouts proposed at Breaden Drive, Cambridge Crescent, Grange Drive, Goongarrie Drive, Gibb Road and Gascoyne Way intersections.
The City is also looking at installing raised plateaus on Grange Drive in Cooloongup at the Murchison Road and Cambridge Crescent intersections.
Turning lanes and central islands are also on the cards to improve access for traffic entering and exiting the SUPA IGA entrances.
Mayor Deb Hamblin encouraged the community to provide their feedback on the proposed upgrades.
“The City has developed the proposed upgrades in consultation with Ausroads and Main Roads Western Australia,” Mayor Hamblin said.
“Both of these projects are fully funded and supported by the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program.
"Construction works on the project are proposed to start in January 2023.
“We understand there may be minor disruptions during the proposed works for property owners and motorists, and these impacts will be kept to a minimum. In the long term these works will be beneficial for the broader community and in particular the 6000 motorists and pedestrians who use these roads daily.”
Affected property owners will be contacted by the City with details of the proposed works during both the design and construction phases.
