With summer approaching, residents in the City of Rockingham are urged to ensure they are prepared to deal with any potential bushfire emergency.
Owners/occupiers need to ensure their property is compliant with the Fire Control Notice 2022/2023, with the City set to commence firebreak inspections on all properties from December 1, 2022.
Infringements may be issued if a property is found to be non-compliant.
From the start of December, the City will enter a Prohibited Burning Period until March 31, 2023.
Over the summer months, community members are encouraged to regularly stay informed of any declared Total Fire Bans, and to also familiarise themselves with the new Australian Fire Danger Ratings.
To be suitably bushfire ready you should prepare a bushfire plan.
This plan includes establishing where you and your family will go in an emergency, what the trigger is for leaving your property, packing an emergency kit, connecting with neighbours and knowing where to get correct information during a bushfire emergency.
City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin said it was vital residents took steps to prepare.
“The City of Rockingham has a large number of areas that have the potential to be impacted by bushfires, and it is crucial people living in these locations are ready to deal with an emergency situation,” Mayor Hamblin said.
“Taking the time to adequately prepare now could turn out to be a lifesaving decision in the future and it will also make it easier for emergency services to respond to any bushfire situations.”
