Locals are invited to the City of Rockingham’s annual Christmas Festival, which will be held at Churchill Park on the Rockingham Foreshore on Saturday, December 5.
Running from 5pm – 9pm, the Christmas Festival will be hosted by the City as part of its Summer Series of free, family-friendly, smoke-free and alcohol-free events.
The Christmas Festival will give visitors the opportunity to celebrate the spirit of Christmas.
It will feature a full stage program including choirs singing Christmas carols, a performance from the Boorloo Indigenous Dance Group and entertainment provided by new talent from the City’s Breakthrough Music Competition.
Roaming Christmas characters will be walking around the foreshore entertaining visitors and a variety of free activities for children will also be available.
The evening will culminate with the turning on of the Christmas lights at Churchill Park, the Beach Plaza and Railway Terrace at 8pm.
City of Rockingham Mayor Sammels encouraged the community to join in the festive spirit at the Christmas Festival.
“The City’s Christmas Festival at the foreshore is a Summer Series favourite amongst the community and is a great way for families to celebrate the festive season in an alcohol-free, smoke-free, family-friendly environment,” Mayor Sammels said.
“After what has been a challenging year for many people, we hope to see community members down at the foreshore to celebrate the festive season in great spirits.”
Due to COVID-19 restrictions there will be no Christmas Parade this year.
“Being COVID is still vitally important, so we strongly encourage everyone coming to the Festival to check in once they get there by scanning the QR codes which will be displayed at multiple locations, using the State Government’s SafeWA app,” Mayor Sammels said.
The SafeWA app, which can be downloaded free from the Apple App Store and Google Play, helps in contact tracing should a new community case of COVID-19 be detected.
The City reminds Festival goers to maintain physical distancing, and to make use of the hand sanitiser stations provided.
Limited additional parking will be available at the Village Green for the event.
Route 555 buses will also operate every 15 minutes from 5pm – 10pm between Rockingham Train Station and the Rockingham Foreshore.
