Community invited to free picnic event to celebrate completion of Mandurah Estuary Bridge

The community is invited to a free, family-friendly event this weekend to celebrate the recently completed second Mandurah Estuary Bridge.

The Picnic in the Park event on Sunday, May 3 will be held at the Waterside Drive Reserve from 4pm to 7pm.

There will be a free sausage sizzle and entertainment with attendees encouraged to bring a picnic blanket.

"It’s incredible to look back at where this journey began. From that first turn of the sod in late 2023 to seeing the bridge standing complete this month, what a transformation for our community," Dawesville MLA Lisa Munday said.

"I find it hard to put into words just how proud I am to have advocated for, and been part of, a project that means so much to our community.

"Thank you for your support, patience, and kindness along the way. It truly hasn’t gone unnoticed, and I hope this new bridge is already making a positive difference in your day-to-day life.

"Now it’s time to celebrate you."

Formalities to officially mark the bridge completion will begin at 5pm.

Attendees are being encouraged to walk or cycle to the event as there is limited parking on site.

A free shuttle bus will also be available from the bus stop on Mandurah Road, adjacent to the Peel Ale House in Halls Head.

Construction of the second bridge began in February 2024 and finished in March 2026.

The $148.8 million project, jointly funded by State and Federal governments, delivered the new two-lane bridge along with a four-metre shared path that runs under the bridge and an all-abilities fishing platform.

It is set to ease congestion with more than 33,000 vehicles crossing over the original Mandurah Estuary Bridge each day.
