The City of Rockingham has announced that construction on the new Cooloongup Skate Park project at Alf Powell Reserve has been completed ahead of schedule.
The new skate park, which replaces the original one that was located on the same site, provides more space and a variety of options for users and is able to accommodate skateboard, BMX and scooter riders of all ages and skill levels.
New features at the skate park include an enclosed transition area with pump bumps, a taco and ramp extensions, a separate mini ramp and a street line with ramps, kerbs, a rail, and ledges.
With the skating elements of the project complete, the City will soon add further infrastructure on site including CCTV cameras and a shade shelter with seating, which is scheduled to be installed in two months’ time.

Mayor Barry Sammels said the City of Rockingham was delighted to open the new skate park to the public, which was designed in consultation with the community.
“Upgrades to the skate park have been made after an asset audit completed by the City in 2015 identified that the original skate park was due to be replaced,” Mayor Sammels said.
“A concept design for the site was developed in 2019 and the City sought feedback from local residents, young people at the nearby primary school and the City’s Skate Reference Group before proceeding with construction.”
“Planning for future generations is a key aspiration in the City’s Strategic Community Plan, and the result of this project is that we now have an exciting new skate park that community members will be able to enjoy for many years to come.”

Approximately $625,000 was budgeted for the Cooloongup Skate Park project, which was inclusive of all planning, design and construction costs. Work on the skate park was carried out by Convic and the City thanks them for helping to deliver the project two months ahead of schedule.
Completion of the Cooloongup Skate Park project follows similar works which were carried out in 2019 to Port Kennedy Skate Park, located at Veterans Memorial Park.
