The State Government is calling on experienced developers to deliver more housing in Rockingham.
The proposed development — located on an 18-hectare site at the former Dixon Road sporting fields — will aim to meet the growing need for housing in the region.
Through an Expressions of Interest (EOI) process, the State Government are looking for developers capable of fast-tracking the delivery of high-quality housing and amenities including options for social and affordable housing.
The City of Rockingham has long advocated for the site to be redeveloped into a compact, well-connected precinct featuring medium to high-density housing, local jobs and quality public spaces.
Mayor Lorna Buchan said the EOI marks an important step toward realising the long-held vision for the site.
“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform a strategically located site into a thriving urban village that delivers homes, jobs and great public spaces for our community,” Mayor Buchan said.
“The City has carefully planned for this type of development through our City Centre Plan, adopted earlier this year by the Western Australian Planning Commission, and we welcome the State Government’s leadership and collaboration in progressing the project.”
The redevelopment comes at a critical time for the region, with major projects such as AUKUS and Westport driving significant economic growth and increasing demand for housing and employment land.
"With AUKUS driving unprecedented growth across our defence sector and Western Australia's economy, it's important we have the housing to support its future workforce," Treasurer Rita Saffioti said.
"We're working with the private sector to deliver more homes for defence personnel and local workers in Rockingham so more Western Australians can make the most of the opportunities these industries will deliver."
Responses to the Invitation for EOI will close on 3 Julyat 4pm and can be submitted via TendersWA.
