Doorbell cameras have been installed at Mandurah Catholic College in a bid to reduce anti-social behaviour in toilet blocks during class time.

The West Australian reports, students who need to use the toilet during lesson time must push a button and look into a camera.

Reception staff then check they have been given permission by a teacher before they are let inside.

A Catholic Education WA spokesperson told The West, the College had implemented a number of policies to reduce anti-social behaviour in the toilet blocks including limiting large groups.

“In Term 4 of 2025 a security measure to monitor anti-social behaviour was implemented, however this measure does not involve cameras facing the toilets or storage of footage,” the spokesperson said.

“The use of this system has led to a drastic reduction in anti-social behaviour.”

It is understood several schools in the Peel region have also implemented similar measures to stamp out behaviour such as vaping and vandalism.
