A Transperth bus driver has been fired after a 12-year-old boy was dragged along a busy Mandurah road.

Jeremy Thompson went to board the 600 bus near the Mandurah Forum on the afternoon of May 14 when the driver allegedly closed the door on his ankle.

Jeremy was then dragged along Pinjarra Road for at least 300 metres before the driver stopped.

"He just closed the doors, the boys are all telling him to stop and they kicked the door and stuff telling him to stop but he kept going," Jeremy told 9News.

He suffered a fractured pelvis, back and hand and required two skin grafts on his back.

On Wednesday, the Public Transport Authority confirmed the driver had been stood down.

In a statement on Thursday, the PTA later revealed he had been fired.

"The bus driver has since been sacked by our contractor," a PTA spokesperson said in a statement.

"As the matter is under investigation by police, we cannot comment further at this time. The PTA and its contractor are assisting with the inquiries."

Speaking on 9News, family spokesperson Megan Krakouer is calling for answers.

"To Transperth, there has to be some accountability that lies also with them...the police need to do their jobs properly and there needs to be a thorough investigation in a timely manner," she said.
