Entries for the City of Rockingham’s 2022 Castaways Sculpture Awards competition are now open to the community.

Castaways is the City’s signature arts and culture event celebrating environmental awareness through artistic innovation. The annual exhibition showcases artworks made from repurposed materials by emerging and professional Western Australian artists.

This year the event will run from Saturday 22 October to Sunday 30 October, 2022. The Main Exhibition and Schools Competition will be featured on the Rockingham Foreshore, while the Maquette and Small Sculptures Exhibition will be held at the Rockingham Arts Centre. A prize pool worth $26,000 is available to participants across several categories.

City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin encouraged Western Australian artists of all ages to enter Castaways.

“Castaways began 14 years ago as a community arts project to raise awareness around the discarded items or ‘castaways’ washing up on local beaches,” Mayor Hamblin said.

“Now, Castaways provides an opportunity for emerging and professional WA artists, schools and local businesses to be a part of a regionally-recognised arts program that continues to promote sustainability values.

“The event continues to grow each year and the City encourages artists to make a submission.”

Entries for the Main Exhibition and Schools Competition close on Monday 30 May 2022. The closing date for entries in the Maquette and Small Sculpture Exhibition is Tuesday 7 June 2022.
