The City of Rockingham will begin excavation works on the Bent Street navigation channel next week.

Works will from run September 9 until mid to late October, with the channel set to remain operational during excavation.

Due to truck movements throughout the project, the nearby Carlisle Street sand boat ramp will be closed.

However, alternative facilities for recreational boat users will be available at Bent Street and Donald Drive.

Sand excavated from the channel during the works will be transported to the City’s Millar Road Landfill Facility for re-use.

Mayor Barry Sammels said the City was carrying out the necessary works in early spring so boat users could make the most of the channel during the summer months.

“The Bent Street navigation channel is a popular spot with boat users, particularly later in the year with the arrival of the crayfish season and the summer holidays,” Mayor Sammels said.

“To give the community the best possible chance of enjoying the boat ramp during the busiest period, the City has committed to carrying out excavation in September and October.

“These works are vital to ensuring boat users can safely enjoy the best our wonderful coast has to offer and we thank them for their patience during this time.”
