Four men charged after shooting horses from their cars

Police have charged four men after an investigation into an incident in January where several horses were shot.

It is alleged around 10:30am on Thursday January 24 the four men were travelling in a convoy of three cars when they saw five horses on a property in Leinster near the roadside.

It is further alleged the men stopped their cars and shot at the horses with firearms stored in the vehicles before driving away.

Two horses died instantly and three others received critical injuries.

The horses were ex-race horses owned as pets and kept on a private property.

A 22-year-old man from Pinjarra, a 22-year-old man from Waroona and a 20-year-old man from Bassendean have been charged with criminal damage and unlawfully discharging a firearm from a road.

They are due to appear in the Leonora Magistrates Court next month.

A 21-year-old man from Waroona has been charged with permit possession of a firearm to a person without a licence or permit.

He is due to appear in the Leonora Magistrates Court in May.
