The iconic Fairbridge Festival has been cancelled for the second straight year amid COVID concerns.

The family-friendly music and camping event, which has been running since 1992, was due to take place from April 22-24, at Fairbridge Village, Pinjarra.

Drew Diamond President of the not-for-profit organisation FolkWorld Inc. said they have been trying to find solutions to the challenges that they and their colleagues in the music and event industry are currently facing, but there are too many uncertainties for them to confidently proceed.

“The Fairbridge Festival production is a complex system involving thousands of audience members, musicians, artists, staff, suppliers, vendors, sponsors, and volunteers,” he said.

“While the COVID-19 management measures in WA appear to be effective at this stage, the increasing uncertainties surrounding the holding of a large music and family festival in April are too many and complex to proceed safely."

Mr Diamond said their hearts are heavy, but their passion remains the same – to unite and bring people together, create unique experiences and memories, as well as support a thriving music and arts scene.

“The team are working tirelessly behind the scenes to find creative new ways for us to stay connected and come together soon. We thank everyone for their understanding, messages of encouragement, and unwavering support,” he said.

Despite their flagship event having to cancel, FolkWorld Inc. is continuing with the Act Belong Commit Fairbridge Festival Quest Youth Songwriting Competition for young songwriters aged 12 to 18 years, as well as with their annual fundraising raffle.

WA residents can purchase a $5 ticket to go in the running to win some amazing prizes including a handcrafted Scott Wise guitar valued at $5500.

All tickets purchased to Fairbridge Festival 2022 will be automatically refunded via Moshtix.
