WA Police have released the frantic call made to emergency services after former Rebels bikie boss Nick Martin was fatally shot at the Kwinana Motorplex.
The decision to release the audio was made just days after bikie David Pye was found guilty of masterminding the murder — recruiting a soldier to carry out the sniper attack while Martin was watching the drag races with his family on December 12, 2020.
The shooting unfolded in front of innocent families and spectators.
The unknown caller can be heard saying "hello, I need an ambulance to the Kwinana Motorplex".
The triple-0 operator then asks what had happened before the caller says "there's been a shooting, I think".
“Ah, a shooting, well I’ve witnessed it firsthand," the caller continues.
“We don’t know where it come from, we don’t know anything. We don’t know where it came from.”
Martin was shot in the chest from 335m away by the sniper.
The sniper, who's name is suppressed, is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence.
The mastermind, Pye, is due to be sentenced in three months.
A WA Police spokesperson said the decision to release the audio was made in the public interest.
"The Western Australia Police Force recognises the significant impact violent events of this nature have on the community and acknowledges that the content of the recording may be distressing for some listeners," the WA Police spokesperson said.
"The material is being released in the public interest. It serves as a clear reminder of the serious risks, harm, and far-reaching community consequences associated with outlaw motorcycle gang activity.
"The recording highlights the danger these groups pose to the public and is intended to act as a strong deterrent to anyone affiliated with, or considering becoming involved with, an outlaw motorcycle gang."
Further details regarding this investigation are discussed in the latest edition of the Western Australia Police Force’s new podcast, Operation Podcast.
