A 49-year-old man has been charged after allegedly setting 12 grass trees on fire in the South West.
A Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) spotter plane was patrolling over dense bushland in Cundinup about 2.30pm on Friday, May 22 when the pilot saw smoke coming from an area of scrub south of Cundinup West Road in the state forest.
The pilot circled the area and allegedly spotted a vehicle parked nearby.
That information was then relayed via radio and WA Police were notified.
Later that day, police intercepted the vehicle on Vasse Highway in Yoongarillup, resulting in the 49-year-old man being charged with wilfully lighting a fire likely to injure or damage.
He is due to appear before the Busselton Magistrates Court on June 8.

Fire crews attended the scene and were able to extinguish the blaze.
"This incident demonstrates the effectiveness of interagency cooperation, with the prompt exchange of information and joint operational response contributing to the swift identification, interception and charging of the offender, while minimising further risk to the community and the environment," a WA Police spokesperson said.

Rewards of up to $25,000 are available for information that leads to the identification and conviction of an arsonist.
