Man fined $10,000 after three self-quarantine breaches

A 51-year-old man has been fined $10,000 plus court costs after breaching COVID-19 self-quarantine breaches last month.

The Merriwa man had flown to Perth from Brisbane on January 7 and was instructed to self quarantine for 14 days following an outbreak of COVID-19 in Queensland.  

Upon arrival the man nominated an address north of Perth to isolate and was expected to stay there until January 21.  

Between January 14 and 15, the man  breached the direction to go with a family member to the shops. 

He breached the direction a third time when he visited the house of the family member over 100 kilometres away.

At no time did the man or family member wear a mask. 

On  Saturday, January 16 the man was interviewed by the Breach Investigation Team and was charged with three counts of fail to comply with a direction.

He was convicted of all charges in the Joondalup Magistrates' Court on Monday, February 8 and fined a total of $10,000 plus court costs. .
