A Perth man who assaulted his brother-in-law at a Mandurah pub on New Years Eve has escaped with a fine.
59-year old Timothy Cormick Pink pled guilty to one count of common assault at Mandurah Magistrates Court today.
The assault occurred at 5:45pm on New Years Eve.
The man walked up to the victim - his brother-in-law - at Murphy's Irish Pub on the Mandurah Foreshore and punched him several times in the head and pulled on his clothing before being restrained by staff.
Mr Pink told the court that he drove all the way from Joondalup simply because he knew the man was at the pub.
He was wound up over a family matter and claims the man made unsubstantiated claims about him in the lead up to the incident.
Mr Pink also told the court he had never done anything like this before, and vowed to never offend again.
"I know I shouldn't have done what I did," he said.
Magistrate Anne Longden said she believed Mr Pink was unlikely to repeat his actions.
"You know this isn't the right way to handle things," she said.
Mr Pink was fined $800 plus costs, and was given a spent conviction.
