A 37-year-old is in a stable condition at Perth Royal Hospital after being shot by police in Yanchep.
Two officers were patrolling in Yanchep just after midnight when they saw a man acting strange.
When the officers approached the man he threatened them with a knife before running into nearby bushland.
The man reappeared from the bushes and confronted the two officers with and knife and a pole, at which point both officers discharged their firearms.
The man was given first aid by police until St John Ambulance paramedics arrived and was then taken to Royal Perth Hospital
The Major Crime Division and the Internal Affairs Unit are investigating the incident.
