A multi award-winning, Dubai-based chef has been announced as this year's Channel 7 Mandurah Crab Fest Culinary Ambassador.
Kelvin Cheung will travel from the UAE and appear on the Crab Fest’s Spudshed Cooking Stage during the event weekend on March 15 and 16, 2025.
A Chinese Canadian who grew up in the kitchen, Cheung worked his way up through the ranks within various restaurants in the US, Canada and Belgium, and began his public chef life in India in 2012 as Executive Chef at Ellipsis Mumbai.
He is a chef and partner at both Jun’s Restaurant and Little Jun’s in Dubai and has secured an array of awards and accolades including inclusions in Dubai’s Michelin Guide, MENA’s 50 Best Restaurants, Gault & Millau UAE’s Best Restaurants, and was named What’s On Dubai’s 2024 Chef of the Year.
Cheung’s culinary style draws inspiration from his Chinese heritage, his North American upbringing, and French training, coupled with the freshest ingredients from local farms.
This year’s Crab Fest will again feature gourmet food stalls, cooking demonstrations, ticketed experiences and local eateries serving up something to suit all tastes.
The free two-day festival celebrates Mandurah’s iconic blue swimmer crab, with delicious crab-inspired dishes and seafood being created across the weekend.
There will also be a range of food vendors and local businesses providing savory dishes, sweet treats, and drinks.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism Rita Saffioti said Crab Fest is a stand-out in WA’s annual calendar of events.
“Crab Fest is a fantastic local event, providing Western Australians with a weekend of fun activities, centred around Mandurah’s famous Blue Manna Crabs,” Minister Saffioti said.
“This event plays an important role in supporting Mandurah’s tourism and hospitality sector, creating local jobs and boosting local businesses, and the WA Government is proud to be supporting it again in 2025.”
Crab Fest attracted more than 100,000 visitors in 2024 throughout Mandurah’s city centre.
The 2025 event footprint will stretch from the city centre and along Mandurah’s Eastern and Western Foreshores, Mandjar Square and over to the Mandurah Ocean Marina.
The City previously announced Ricki-Lee Coulter, and Natalie Bassingthwaighte (Rogue Traders) has the headline acts.
