Mandurah's Eastern Foreshore has now fully reopened just in time for the Channel 7 Mandurah Crab Fest.
The redeveloped central and northern areas of the foreshore include a new fully-fenced playground, upgrades to lighting, widened paths, new barbeques, sheltered picnic areas and fresh turf.
Mayor Caroline Knight said the new areas have created welcoming areas for locals and visitors to enjoy for generations to come.
“The entire Eastern Foreshore is open for business – its fresh and inviting, and we welcome everyone to enjoy and rediscover our iconic spaces by the water. These new areas are the ultimate setting for all the fun and festivities of Crab Fest, our signature annual event,” Mayor Knight said.
“A highlight is the new, fully fenced playground which was built with accessibility front of mind. There’s an accessible Sway Fun Glider, a nautical-themed play tower with a slide, swings, plus we’ve been able to reuse the much-loved yellow boat from the previous playground.
“By refreshing our public areas, we further strengthen Mandurah as a top-class destination with great tourism offerings, which will ultimately continue to benefit the community, local businesses and visitors. It’s an exciting time for Mandurah and our economic future.
“We sincerely thank the local businesses in this area for their patience and understanding throughout this project and thank the State and Federal governments for partnering with us to make our waterfront spaces even more vibrant.”
The latest works are part of the Mandurah Waterfront Project which has seen major developments on both the Eastern and Western foreshores.
This includes the Mandurah Skate Park, Koolaanga Waabiny Playground, the circular Kwillena Gabi Pool, plus upgrades to Smart Street Mall and new public toilet facilities.
Project funding partners include the State and Federal Governments and the City of Mandurah.
