A new primary school in Wellard has been officially named.
Three potential names for the school were considered by the local community, and Wellard Village Primary School was overwhelmingly the most popular choice.
Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery said the name reflects the connected hub of people who live in the united and diverse local community.
"The name is a nod to the surrounding village-style community that has a focus on togetherness, belonging and community spirit."
"This milestone means the school is a step closer to welcoming students into the classroom."
Wellard Village Primary School will accommodate 650 students from Kindergarten to Year 6 in state-of-the-art facilities.
It will feature an administration block, library, staff room, early learning block, general learning classroom blocks with art, science and inclusive education rooms, a covered assembly area, hard courts, an oval with tiered seating, and landscaped surrounds.
The school is due to open its doors to students in 2023.
