Nominations are now open for the City of Rockingham's 2021 Sports Star Awards.
Rockingham sporting clubs, associations, committees, schools and individuals are being invited to nominate a deserving sportsperson or team.
The event recognises the achievements of athletes and volunteers who have participated in local, regional, state, national and international competitions.
Awards are available across seven categories and they include:
- Club of the Year
- Team of the Year
- Senior Sports Star of the Year
- Junior Sports Star of the Year
- Sportsperson of the Year with Disability
- Volunteer of the Year
- And the John Brown Lifetime Achievement Memorial Award.
“Sport and recreation hold an important place in the Rockingham community and the City’s Sports Star Awards are an opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of local sportspeople and volunteers,” Mayor Barry Sammels said.
“Due to the fact the Sports Star Awards weren’t held in 2020 because of COVID restrictions, the City is opening up nominations over a two year period to recognise achievements during the July 2019 – June 2021 period.
"If you know an individual, club or team that deserves recognition, then we encourage you to nominate them.”
The 2021 Sports Star Awards will be held on Wednesday, September 15, at the Gary Holland Community Centre.
Nominations close Friday, July 30.
