An investigation into the death of a police officer at Cockburn Police Station is underway.
According to police, the officer died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Commissioner of Western Australia Police Force Chris Dawson has extended his condolences to the family of the officer, his colleagues at Cockburn Police Station and all who knew him.
Mr Dawson said support services had been mobilised to make sure all those who feel they need assistance can access counselling.
The Cockburn Police Station has been temporarily closed.
The public are asked not to attend the station until further notice and direct enquires to 131 444.
They can also attend in person at Fremantle and Mandurah Police Stations which are both open 24 hours.
