The City of Rockingham has honoured outstanding community members as part of the 2026 Community Citizen of the Year Awards, presented during the City’s Australia Day celebrations.
This year, 14 nominations were received across four categories, recognising individuals and groups who demonstrate leadership, generosity and a commitment to strengthening the community.
Mayor Lorna Buchan said the Awards were an important opportunity to recognise the many unsung heroes who strengthen the fabric of the community.
“Rockingham is fortunate to be home to so many generous and community minded individuals. I congratulate all our winners and nominees for the positive difference they make every day.”
Mayor Buchan also took the opportunity to congratulate former Mayor Barry Sammels on being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 2026 Australia Day Honours.
“This honour recognises Barry’s outstanding service to local government over nearly three decades, and to the wider Rockingham community through his support of a range of local clubs and organisations. We thank him for his many years of dedicated service.”
