A Parmelia couple have celebrated the new year with an extra $100,000 in their bank after winning the top prize on a scratchie.
The man in his 50s purchased a 100k WA Gold Double ticket from Phoenix Lotteries on Saturday before realising he had taken out the top prize.
“On Saturday I woke up feeling funny and with itchy palms, so I decided to take this as a sign to go and treat myself to a scratchie ticket,” he said.
After realising he had a winning ticket, the man said he had never wanted Monday to come around so much in his life.
The couple are now planning a trip to Bali to celebrate a positive start to 2025.
Lotterywest spokesperson James Mooney said 2024 has seen 51 Top Prize scratchie winners across WA share prizes totalling $5.2 million.
“In 2024, WA scratchies have raised $48.6 million for Lotterywest’s grants program which supports community groups across the State,” he said.
“Parmelia is not just home to our most recent $100,000 winner, but also an $85,000 Lotterywest grant to the City of Kwinana for a series of arts and family friendly events between October and March 2025."
