The final Western Australian Government Hospitality Job Connect course for 2021 is running all week, with 23 job seekers signed up to the program in Mandurah.
The free initiative links job seekers and potential employers and is supported by the State Government through Tourism WA, in partnership with local TAFE providers.
During the five-day fast track course, job seekers will complete customer service training and learn barista skills.
They will also complete TAFE accredited units including Responsible Service of Alcohol certification and Australian Hotels Association (AHA) COVID-19 hygiene training.
Interactive masterclasses will be led by renowned WA chef Tony Howell and WA Food Ambassador Chef Don Hancey will lead masterclasses, introducing participants to a career in hospitality.
Hospitality operators will have the opportunity to introduce their business, meet participants and discuss available job openings on the final day.
“We have been speaking with hospitality and tourism operators across the State and the worker shortage is the issue that’s top of mind for many businesses," Tourism Minister David Templeman said.
“Our Hospitality Job Connect initiative has been rolling out across a number of locations across WA to help address this issue and connect businesses with job seekers.
“The Mandurah course is well timed with upskilled workers completing the course a couple of weeks out from Christmas, ready to help with the festive rush."
Previous courses have been held in Kununurra, Geraldton, Broome, Albany and Margaret River, as well as student programs in Perth.
