Peel Thunder dual-premiership coach Adam Read will depart the club to take up an assistant coaching role at Greater Western Sydney.
Read was appointed head coach of the Thunder at the start of the 2024 WAFL season, leading them to two grand final wins.
He joined the Fremantle Football Club in 2007 where he served as a recruiter, analyst and development coach up until his appointment at Peel.
Speaking on AFL Trade Radio on Wednesday, GWS football boss Jason McCartney confirmed Read as their new assistant coach.
“We have only made the one change with our coaching group, and that was Brett Montgomery going back to South Australia,” McCartney said.
“We’ll announce later today that Adam Read from the Fremantle Football Club will be joining us.
“Adam’s been at Fremantle for 16 years in a variety of roles … he’s been with Ross Lyon in strategy roles, and then the last five years he’s been in development, and the last three he’s been coaching Peel to two WAFL premierships. We’re really excited to bring him in. The opportunity there.”
Peel Thunder will now be on the hunt for a new coach to lead them in the 2027 WAFL season.
