A 47-year-old man has been charged with over 400 child sexual abuse offences against 24 victims.
In July 2021, information provided to the WA Joint Child Exploitation Team led police to search the man's workplace and home.
Officers allegedly seized multiple storage devices and computers which contained 3.8 million videos and images of child exploitation material.
Police allege some of the material on the devices included recordings of the accused man sexually abusing children.
His alleged victims were girls and boys aged between three and 13-years.
It's alleged the abuse took place between 2015 and 2021.
Sex crime division Detective Inspector Hamish McKenzie said the investigation has been extensive and distressing.
"This investigation is one of the most significant child abuse investigations ever conducted in Western Australia in so far as how many images were located and how many victims we will allege were abused," Detective Inspector Hamish McKenzie said.
“This investigation involved hundreds and hundreds of hours of examination of child exploitation material, a number of images, of course, are extremely distressing.
“Our main goal in any investigation of this nature is to identify the victims and remove them from further harm.
“As part of this investigation, investigators have also spoken to the families of the victims and have had to advise them on many occasions that their children had allegedly been abused by the accused person, and in some cases this abuse had been recorded.”
The Perth man's charges include 240 counts of indecently dealing with a child under 13, 98 counts of indecently recording a child under 13, 44 counts of sexually penetrating a child under 13, 26 counts of possessing child exploitation material and five counts of producing child exploitation material.
He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on April 22.
