A police car has caught on fire following a pursuit in Baldivis.
Officers tried to stop a vehicle about 11.20am on Saturday but the driver allegedly sped off, stopping for police a few minutes later on Cottonwood Drive.
The 34-year-old driver and a female passenger were detained at the scene.
"While officers were speaking to the driver and passenger of the vehicle, a second police unit arrived at the scene and those officers noticed smoke coming from the traffic vehicle," a WA Police spokesperson said.
"Equipment was removed from the vehicle, and officers were unable to extinguish the fire.
"The fire caused significant damage to the front end of the police vehicle."
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
A 34-year-old Waikiki man has been charged with a string of offences including reckless driving to escape pursuit by police, possessing a prohibited drug, unlicensed person possessing a firearm/ammunition, no authority to drive and breach of bail.
He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on Sunday, December 3.
